Vom 25. bis 26. September 2025 findet in Czernowitz der Workshop “The End of Wars. Ukraine in Historical and International Contexts” statt. Die Veranstaltung wird von der Deutsch-Ukrainischen Historikerkommission in Kooperation mit der Nationalen Jurij-Fedkowytsch-Universität Czernowitz organisiert.

Das Programm umfasst die feierliche Eröffnung, Keynote-Vorträge sowie Paneldiskussionen, die sich mit historischen und aktuellen Erfahrungen der Ukraine im Kontext von Krieg und Friedensprozessen beschäftigen und zugleich vergleichende internationale Perspektiven einbeziehen.

Online webinar: "The Matter Of Historical Responsibility: Experience And Prospects For Ukraine"

The webinar will focus on discussing the concept of historical responsibility and its theoretical underpinnings, the experience of cultivating a culture of responsibility, and the implementation of responsibility policies in European and North American countries. Special attention will be given to the issue of Germany's historical responsibility towards Ukraine for the crimes of National Socialism. The speakers will be:

  • Jars Balan, Canadian Institute for Ukrainian Studies (Edmonton, Canada)
  • Oleksandr Lysenko, Institute for History of Ukraine, Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine)
  • Tanja Penter, Heidelberg University (Germany)

The panel will be chaired by Gelinada Grinchenko, University of Wuppertal (Germany), and Kai Struve, Martin Luther University (Halle, Germany). At the end of the webinar, there will be a Q&A section where questions from the audience will be read out. The Seminar will be held in Ukrainian and English with simultaneous translation.
