Resolution

We strongly condemn the targeted Russian drone attack on the historic main building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in downtown Kyiv on September 28, 2026. This attack strikes an institution of global renown and is aimed at the heart of Ukrainian science and, by extension, Ukraine’s intellectual life. Once again, the Russian attack very deliberately accepted civilian casualties. We, as historians, extend our sympathy to the victims and our solidarity to all our colleagues in Ukraine. We call on the German government and other Western countries to massively expand their efforts to protect Kyiv and all of Ukraine from airstrikes targeting Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. We will not waver in our support for our Ukrainian colleagues!
