This seminar is going to be a discussion based on Martin Schulze Wessel’s recent book “The Curse of the Empire. Ukraine, Poland, and the Aberration in Russian History” (Original German title: “Der Fluch des Imperiums. Die Ukraine, Polen und der Irrweg in der russischen Geschichte”). Besides the Russian-Polish-Ukrainian imperial entanglements since the 18th century, another point of discussion will be what role Germany/Prussia has played in it and what it implies for today’s German-Ukrainian relations.

The panel will be chaired by Guido Hausmann, University of Regensburg (Germany). At the end of the webinar, there will be a Q&A section where questions from the audience will be read out. The seminar is held in English with simultaneous translation into Ukrainian.
